Chinese and Congolese presidents review bilateral cooperation

Beijing, Oct 19 (Prensa Latina) Chinese President Xi Jinping met on Thursday his Congolese counterpart, Denis Sassou-N'guesso, with whom he discussed aspects of bilateral cooperation.

The Congolese head of State, who is visiting China to participate in the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, was received at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

During the meeting, the two statesmen discussed the importance of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which is now in its first decade of implementation and of which Congo is an active participant and a major partner, according to the Chinese leader.

Xi noted that China follows the spirit of the Silk Road, characterized by peace, cooperation, openness, inclusiveness, learning and mutual benefit, Xinhua news agency reported.

He also referred to the friendly exchanges and cooperation from which tangible results have emerged in these ten years, such as the Congo National Highway No. 1, the Sino-Congolese Bank for Africa and the Brazzaville Trade Center.

Another issue addressed by the two presidents was Congo’s special interest in environmental protection and, in particular, fighting climate change.

In this regard, the Chinese president pointed out he was willing to work to deepen sustainable cooperation and protect the common home of all, the Earth.

Sassou-N’guesso also met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on Thursday, as reported by the Presidency of the African country on its social network account X.
