“I am horrified by the reported deaths and injuries of children and women,” said the head of UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) in a statement, stressing that while details are still unknown and bodies are still being counted, the scenes on the ground are devastating.
Russell said that the massacre “highlights the deadly impact this ongoing war is having on children and families.”
In just 11 days, hundreds of minors tragically lost their lives and thousands more were injured, she stressed, and regretted that more than 300,000 were displaced from their homes by Israeli bombings and on Israeli orders of evacuation.
“Attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, such as hospitals, are unacceptable and must stop now,” she demanded. “For this reason, we reiterate our urgent call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and to guarantee the protection of children because they all deserve peace,” she demanded.
Over three thousand Palestinians and some 1,400 Israelis have lost their lives since the start of hostilities on October 7th.
