Cuba expresses solidarity with Palestinian cause

Havana, Oct 18 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) on Wednesday brough together representatives of civil society, political and social organizations and diplomats to express their support for the Palestinian cause.

Long live Free Palestine! We are all Palestine! They were the constant demands in each speech to condemn Israel’s ferocious aggression against the Gaza Strip, as well as the indiscriminate attacks to which that people have been subjected for decades.

ICAP President Fernando González reiterated Cuba’s condemnation of the indiscriminate bombings on the civilian population, which are resulting in thousands of deaths, considerable material losses and damage to the infrastructure that was aimed at guaranteeing the survival of more than two million inhabitants.

He added that it is a shame for humanity that with support from the United States, the Government of Israel has intensified its policy of aggression to exterminate the Palestinian people.

González pointed out that they will not give up on the demand for an end to this flagrant violation of elementary human rights such as the right to land, home, homeland and life.

“Palestine will not give up and will continue the battle until the full recovery of its rights. If there is something that the Israeli regime will never be able to kill, it is courage and resistance,” González said.

On behalf of the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC), Omaida Hernández said that Palestinian women are a symbol of courage and will in the fight to free themselves from colonialism and in the Palestinian refugees’ demand to return to their lands.

She noted that in Israel’s recent attacks on innocent civilians, which have killed more than 1,000 people, the majority of them were women, adolescents and girls, in addition to the consequences of the displacement of more than 73,000 people from their homes.

She ratified Cuba’s solidarity with the General Union of Palestinian Women, which for more than 50 years has participated intensely in the fight to defend prisoners and to shed light on the reality of refugee women.

The event also demanded the end of warmongering rhetoric, the immediate arrival of humanitarian aid to Gaza and that the United Nations Security Council fulfill its mandate and end Israel’s impunity, which undermines regional peace, security and stability.

Palestinian Ambassador to Cuba Akram Samhan, in turn, thanked the show of support and stated that his people’s cause still stands. He stressed the firm conviction that they will not give up despite the difficult situation.
