Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Josefina Vidal and MOFA Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean Yasushi Noguchi presided over the meeting held at the headquarters of the Japanese organization.
Both parties noted the good relations between both countries and the positive development of cooperation, MINREX reported.
They referred to cooperation within the temporary Cuban and Japanese presidencies of the G77+China and the G7, respectively.
They stressed the fluid exchange of delegations, highlighting the visit to Japan by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro in 1995 and 2003, and the visits to Cuba by then Foreign Minister, current Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in 2015, and former Head of Government Shinzo Abe in 2016.
The two nations also discussed other issues on the international agenda and celebrated the 125th anniversary of the beginning of Japanese migration to Cuba.
Vidal reiterated her appreciation for Tokyo’s support for the resolution Cuba submits at the United Nations every year to demand an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
