Presidents of Russia and Syria urge to halt bombings on Gaza

Moscow, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) The presidents of Russia and Syria, Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad, respectively, spoke over the telephone on Monday and favor stopping Israel's bombing on the Gaza Strip and the forced displacement of residents.

According to the Kremlin press office, both leaders stressed the urgency of delivering humanitarian aid to civilians in the area, which has been blockaded by Israeli troops since 2007.

On October 7, a new aggravation of the situation in the Middle East occurred after the radical Palestinian movement, Hamas, attacked Israel from the Gaza Strip, and explained that it was a response to the actions against the Al Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.

Israel, in turn, decreed war and a total blockade against the Gaza Strip, and started attacks which have killed more than 2,700 people and wounded more than 10,800 in that enclave.

On the other hand, the spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, said that Israeli authorities had informed the world organization that 1.1 million Palestinians should be evacuated to the south of the Gaza Strip within 24 hours.

The Israel Defense Forces argued that Hamas militants were hiding in tunnels under houses and in civilian buildings in Gaza. The Israeli demand also applies to “all UN personnel and those who have taken refuge in UN agencies.”
