IU demands Spain and EU to condemn crimes in Gaza

Madrid, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) The Izquierda Unida (IU) federal spokesperson, Sira Rego, today demanded a clear condemnation from Spain and the European Union (EU) to the war crimes and ethnic cleansing in Gaza by Israel.

At a press conference, the MEP of the party that is part of the minority alliance in the Spanish left-wing government, stressed that various initiatives should put an end to Israel’s occupation of Palastine.

She cited among them, the ‘breaking-off of the European Union-Israel Association Agreement and the end of arms trade’, in addition to ‘compliance with the resolutions of the United Nations and International Law’.

Rego went even further in her forceful declarations, when she remarked that IU supports the idea of the recognition of the Palestinian State within the framework of the Government agreement and the proposal ‘to take Benjamin Netanyahu to the International Criminal Court’.

The legislator praised the demonstrations of solidarity with the Palestinian people around the world, ‘which have been resounding and very successful’, including those in which most Spanish cities were involved last weekend.

This has been so ‘despite the level of repression of some governments, such as in France, the United Kingdom or Germany, determined to criminalize solidarity with the Palestinian people’, she added.

She also took advantage of the occasion to talk angrily about the ‘photo of shame’ that Ursula von der Leyen (president of the European Commission) and Roberta Metsola (head of the European Parliament) took during their visit to Israel with Netanyahu.

With this photo they break the European founding consensuses based on the respect for Human Rights and International Law. Not in our behalf’, Sira Rego sentenced.
