Recalling the self-defence speech delivered by Fidel Castro on October 16, 1953, “is a necessity and an act of justice, since today’s social networks show an idyllic pre-1959 of Cuba and the reality was much more similar to what was described in that manuscript,” Gonzalez Barrios reaffirmed.
The workshop, sponsored by the Union of Jurists and Historians and Cuba’s Archive of Historical Documents gathered over twenty historians, intellectuals, political scientists, sociologists, teachers and researchers to reflect on the value and validity of the ideas expressed therein.
During the encounter, participants had the opportunity to take a close look at the original samples of the 37th case, summoned against those accused of being part of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Garrisons, on July 26, 1953.
