During an interview with an Egyptian television station, the organization’s deputy secretary general, Hossam Zaki, stressed that the main objective at present is to stop the aggression against the territory, where 2,329 people were killed after nine days of bombing.
Our basic priorities now are to stop the violence and deliver humanitarian aid, he stressed.
Zaki rejected Israel’s orders to displace more than one million Palestinians from the north of the Strip as part of its plans to launch a full-scale ground invasion.
“This is something that cannot be tolerated”, the official, who called on the UN and the European Union to stop such actions, said.
The aim of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is to expel Palestinians to Egypt, Zaki said, recalling that the Cairo authorities warned that they would not tolerate such a move.
He stressed that international law prohibits the targeting of civilians and said that such “crimes cannot be tolerated or accepted”.
