Cuba has been an example of true brotherhood with Palestine, which is shown especially through Cuban medical internationalism, said Calla Walsh, co-chair of the National Network on Cuba (NNOC) during the opening of Saturday’s meeting at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
Hundreds of Palestinians are studying to become doctors at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, the young activist recalled.
“They tell us that Cuba´s example of facing a hostile blockade for over 60 years gives them hope that Palestine will also survive,” she said.
Walsh quoted Professor Tony Vandermeer, who on Friday condemned the devastation caused by the current Israeli blockade against Gaza, which has already left more than 1,600 dead and more than 7,000 wounded.
Representatives of 57 organizations grouped in the NNOC will evaluate their strategies against the US blockade against Cuba.
The NNOC’s conference concludes tomorrow in Boston, famous for its fundamental role in the revolution for independence from the United States and for its educational institutions.
Attendees in this annual review expect renewed impetus to the main task: lifting the U.S. blockade against Cuba and removing Cuba from the States Sponsoring Terrorism (SST) list.
