Cradle of significant canvas artists such as Fidelio Ponce de León (1895-1949), the city opens its doors this time for the known Visual Arts Salon, which focuses on the art instructor.
In statements to Prensa Latina, artist Nazario Salazar, to whom this edition of Ecos de Adoquines is dedicated, talked about the role of art teachers in promoting Cuban culture.
“Especially in this year dedicated to art teachers, I think it is terrific because many times we go to the great masters, to people who already have a name, and yet, to children who are just beginning, who have an enormous responsibility, we must open opportunities for them,” he said.
Salazar, a teacher of several generations and a collaborator with institutions such as the Vicentina de la Torre Academy of Arts, is a stronghold in training emerging artists.
“I was also an art teacher, and sometimes they do not get what they should get. That is to say, the treatment they should receive, the important place that the art teacher has,” the protagonist of diverse exhibitions said with a critical spirit.
The stimulation of those who are emerging is essential “because what else could be done we must continue to stimulate this creativity that is so important for Cuba’s culture, Salazar concluded.
