Ethiopia and Chile agree to strengthen South-South cooperation

Addis Ababa, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia and Chile have agreed to strengthen cooperation to share lessons and experiences and develop capacities in the spirit of South-South cooperation, state-owned Fana Broadcasting Corporate stressed on Thursday.

The agreement came after the meeting of Ethiopian Minister of Women and Social Affairs, Ergoge Tesfaye, and Juan Pino, Director General of Middle East and Africa Affairs at the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The source also confirmed that Tesfaye, through a video call, held talks with Chile’s Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Gloria de la Fuente.

The meeting addressed issues to ensure gender equality and women’s empowerment and enhance their role in leadership and decision-making, peace and security, and climate change.

Also attending the gathering were: Chile’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Rodrigo Guzman; Deputy Head of Chile’s Mission, Isaac Ramirez; and Cesar Castillo, Member of African Economic Affairs at the Vice Ministry of International Economic Relations.

Ethiopia and Chile held their first political consultation on Tuesday to review bilateral relations and cooperation on several regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

Ethiopia and Chile established formal diplomatic relations in 1965, the source stated.
