The Rafah crossing between Sinai and Gaza remained open, the Egyptian foreign ministry said, adding that Egypt had asked Israel to avoid targeting the Palestinian side of the crossing after strikes that prevented normal operations there.
In a press release, Egypt´s Foreign and Expatriates Ministry called on the international community to send to that airport the shipment of products that will be transported by land through the Rafah border crossing, located about 50 kilometers away.
In this regard, the Ministry denied press reports on the closure of this crossing, the only one in the Gaza Strip that is not controlled by Israel.
The Egyptian initiative is a direct response to the severe Israeli attack and aims to alleviate the plight of the enclave’s residents, the Foreign Ministry stated.
