“For its history, its culture, its traditions and especially for the courage of its daughters and sons, Matanzas is enchanting,” the president added in his account on the social network X.

Likewise, the Caribbean nation’s Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero, said on the same platform that the beautiful Athens of Cuba -as the city is popularly known- commemorates the anniversary with the inauguration of a wide range of social and recreational works. He also called on the people of Matanzas to continue working day by day for the welfare of their people.

On the occasion, also the Vice President of the Republic, Salvador Valdés, said that the beautiful western Cuban city celebrates its anniversary working for the welfare of its citizens and making it much more beautiful every day.

Matanzas, located 104 kilometers east of Havana, is considered Cuba’s first modern city.
