The decision responds to the State of War implemented by the Israeli Government after the war clashes with Hamas which rules the Gaza Strip.
According to the Commander of Air Brigade 1, Colonel Andres Ghiorsi, it was a “humanitarian flight to evacuate Uruguayans stranded in Tel Aviv.”
The aircraft made a stopover in Recife, Brazil, and headed for Cape Verde, where it will refuel before arriving in the Spanish capital, a prelude to its destination in the Israeli capital.
The Uruguayan Ambassador to Israel, who was in his country on leave, comprises the crew, Defense Minister Javier Garcia detailed.
Lacalle Pou’s Government described the Hamas’ attacks against Israel as terrorist, adding they were the trigger for the current war escalation.
The position of the Uruguayan Administration has been questioned by Arab diplomatic representatives in this capital, who consider it biased in favor of Tel Aviv, and against United Nations’ decisions on rejecting the occupation of Palestinian territories and other violations of Israel against the Palestinian population.
