At the meeting, Baluja underscored Cuba’s commitment to the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Baluja praised the promotion of education in Cuba, a position endorsed in the context of its annual presidency of the G77+China.
The Cuban miniester invited Giannini to attend the International Congress on Higher Education University 2024, scheduled for February 5-9, 2024, at the Havana International Conference Center (HICC), an event that will have a forum dedicated to UNESCO and projects in education.
Meanwhile, Giannini stressed the level of cooperation achieved with Cuba. She noted its leadership in education, demonstrated by being one of the first countries to ratify the World Convention for the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education and by its participation in the process to enforce it.
Both officials discussed the significance of collaboration, in particular UNESCO’s Campus Africa lighthouse program, which offers opportunities for South-South and triangular cooperation. In addition, they exchanged views on the role of universities in the quest for sustainable development.
