Although the National Seismological Center located the epicenter of the earthquake 28 kilometers southwest of Trinidad, in the Cuban province of Sancti Spíritus, with a depth of 28 kilometers, in the Villa Clara towns of Manicaragua, Matagua and La Moza, the inhabitants of those places felt earth tremor at home.
Miriam Rodriguez, an observer at the La Piedra Seismological Station in the municipality of Manicaragua, corroborated to the press the occurrence of a perceptible e 3.1-magnitude earthquake in the Richter scale at 11:23 hours, local time.
“The coordinates place it in the sea, but the movement in the earth’s crust leads to the propagation of seismic waves. For that reason, Manicaragua, Cumanayagua and Cienfuegos reported the event”, Rodríguez explained.
At the closing of this report, no damage to infrastructure or human lives has been reported. Specialists recommend maintaining vigilance and attention during the next few days.
