Germany confirms departure of many of its citizens from Israel

Berlin, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock on Wednesday confirmed the departure of thousands of German citizens from Israel, after the escalation of the conflict with the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.

Before the lawmakers of the Bundestag (the German Parliament), she confirmed that “in the last few days, thousands have left Tel Aviv in different ways,” some of them arrived by bus to Jordan and there they took a plane to Berlin.

The government officials explained that the German citizens also traveled with international airlines.

She recalled that Lufthansa will operate about eight evacuation flights from Israel on Thursday and Friday.

According to the Bild newspaper, about 5,000 German citizens remain in hotels or in the homes of friends, although the number of Germans in this Middle Eastern territory is officially unknown.

Rocket attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip began in the morning of October 7, as part an operation described by the Hamas high leadership as a response to the aggressive actions against the Al-Aqsa mosque in the center of Jerusalem.

Following the response by Israel, a country that has maintained a historic repression and occupation of Palestinian territory for the past 75 years, thousands of people have been killed and injured on both sides of the border.
