Ecuadorian Armed Forces will safeguard electoral precincts

Quito, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) Starting on October 11th, members of the Ecuadorian Armed Forces will occupy schools and other locations to be used as electoral precincts on October 15th, as a measure to prevent potential acts of violence.

Next Sunday Luisa González, from the Citizen Revolution movement (RC), and Daniel Noboa, from the National Democratic Action Alliance (ADN), will face off at the polls for the replacement of Guillermo Lasso.

As in the first round of the elections, the soldiers will return days in advance to guard the voting centers, according to statements made last week by the authorities of the Ministry of the Interior and the National Electoral Council (CNE).

53 thousand police officers are also part of the plan to guarantee citizen tranquility during the elections.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Education reported that 3,850 public schools, which will serve as polling stations, will begin virtual classes starting on Wednesday with the aim of providing facilities to the army and the CNE personnel for logistical and security operations.

Ecuadorians will go to the polls once again this October 15th under a state of exception that President Guillermo Lasso extended for another 30 days, amidst the wave of insecurity in all Ecuador.

In addition to the increase in criminal acts, the country is suffering a greater amount of political violence, with 88 cases of attacks on functionaries, candidates, or their relatives, between 2022 and 2023, making these elections the most violent in the history of Ecuador.
