Another strong earthquake shaked western Afghanistan

Kabul, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) A 6.3-magnitude earthquake, on the Richter scale, struck again in western Afghanistan on Wednesday, which was hit by two similar quakes over the weekend that caused more than 1,000 deaths and wounded.

The earthquake was about 28 kilometers northwest of Herat, Afghanistan, with an epicenter of 10 kilometers deep, the US Geological Survey informed.

Details about the quake’s effects are still unknown. Another 5.0-magnitude earthquake hit the same region a few minutes later.

A 4.1-magnitude aftershock struck Chahar Burj in southeast Herat, the US Seismological Survey reported. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimated that more than 12,000 people were affected and nearly 500 are missing after the weekend earthquakes.

The death toll and injuries would vary as the search and rescue teams reach sites with difficult access.
