Viengsay Valdés Emotions for 75 years of Cuban National Ballet

Havana, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) "The Cuban National Ballet (BNC) is celebrating its 75th anniversary this October with a Jubilee Season to honor its founders and full of emotions" expressed the director of the BNC, Viengsay Valdés, in an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina.

The prima ballerina also affirmed that it is an honor and joy to be present at such a historic moments for the company, in which everyone is reviewing how much has happened in these decades, first directed by Maestro Fernando Alonso, later by Alicia Alonso, and now under her leadership.

She emotionally reassured her commitment to this Jubilee Season, taking place from October 6 to 28, and emphasized that this is the moment to say: “Here we continue this legacy for the Cuban Ballet School.”

Valdés stated that it is a time to motivate all institutions to join the celebration, and in performances, we rescue on stage a repertoire that has not been long performed.

She also mentioned that we must strengthen relations with countries where the BNC has performed, and Alicia Alonso’s performances are still remembered.

The BNC general director said that part of the respect for the founders’ legacy is to maintain the high level achieved so that the National Ballet continues to be a unified, capable, and solid school.

She also recalled that the level of demand is also part of the success. About the classical ballets that the audience will see on stage at Teatro Nacional de Cuba, respect the styles that Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, fundamentally insisted on so much.

About future generations of dancers, Valdés emphasized that perseverance and effort are essential to building a career, and this will allow them to achieve success.
