The student wing of the Communist Party of India, which has over four million members, chose October 9th to announce its adherence to the “Let Cuba Live” global initiative, which seeks justice for Cuba, on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the assassination of Ernesto Che Guevara.
The initiative was launched in February 2023 by Noam Chomsky, US academic and political activist, and Vijay Prashad, Indian historian and journalist, and highlights that Cuba has been able to deal with hunger, poor health, and illiteracy, for more than six decades, in spite of the economic blockade of the United States.
The call indicates that President Joe Biden is in a position to take Cuba off the list, on which it was included by his predecessor Donald Trump, in an act of revenge for Cuba’s role as mediator in the peace talks in Colombia.
According to the call, the Biden administration has maintained Trump’s vindictive policy for two years, which punishes Cuba not for terrorism, but for promoting peace.
The vice president of SFI, Neeteesh Naranyam, recently told Prensa Latina that it is absurd that Cuba is on that list, as it is an example of humanism, international solidarity, and dignity.
Naranyam stated that having visited Cuba this year was an immense experience because he learned what it is like to work based on priorities such as health, education, and social well-being, disregarding the difficulties imposed by Washington’s economic war against the Cuban people.
Notwithstanding the crisis caused by the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade, Cuba protects its people with a political system centered on human beings, he said.
