At the meeting, the Chinese head of State noted that relations between the two nations will determine the future and destiny of humanity.
“Competition and confrontation are not in line with the trend of times and much less can they help solve a country’s own problems and the challenges that the world is facing,” he added.
Xi noted that common interests “far outweigh” their differences and noted that the respective success of China and the United States is an opportunity and not a mutual challenge.
The president stressed that the post-pandemic global recovery, the fight against climate change, and the resolution of international and regional issues require coordination and cooperation between the two nations.
“As two major countries, China and the United States should show their great minds, vision and responsibility,” he underlined.
Xi urged his counterpart to manage bilateral relations properly with a responsible attitude toward history and the world.
The Chinese present also called to approach bilateral relations in a spirit of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and cooperation to improve the two peoples’ welfare.
Earlier, the US senators met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
“We expect this visit will help the United States to have a more accurate understanding of China, to consider Sino-US relations more objectively and to manage existing differences more rationally,” the foreign minister said.
Relations between China and the US are at the worst moment in their history due to the economic war against Beijing, as well as Washington’s interference in China’s internal affairs on the Taiwan issue.
