ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management opens in Vietnam

Hanoi, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) The 43rd session of the Committee on Natural Disaster Management of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) opened in Ha Long City, northern Vietnam's Quang Ninh province, on Monday.

Delegates from 10 ASEAN member countries, and Timor-Leste as an observer, are attending the three-day meeting to discuss the draft Ha Long Declaration on enhancing early activities in natural disaster management in the ASEAN to the 11th Ministerial Meeting for approval on October 12.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep explained at the opening ceremony that the key issues to be assessed at the forum will be the outcomes of the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response work program for the 2021-2025 period.

They will also talk about the financial regulations of the ASEAN Emergency Relief and Disaster Management Fund, as well as cooperation and agreements with partners from China, Japan, and South Korea, among other issues. Following the rotation among the Association’s member countries, Vietnam will chair the Committee on Natural Disaster Management this year and host the 11th ASEAN Ministerial Conference on the matter and other annual meetings and related activities.
