In an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina, BNC General Director Viengsay Valdés affirmed that it is an honor to be present at such a historic moment for the company, in which everyone is reviewing what has happened in these decades, first directed by Maestro Fernando Alonso, later by Alicia Alonso, and now under her leadership.
The Jubilee program will premiere the cycle Cuban Choreographers, in which “Rara Avis” by Alberto Mendez, “Cinderella” (Pas de deux) by Pedro Consuegra and inspired by the story of the same name by Charles Perrault, “Dionaea and Alfonsina” by Gustavo Herrera, “Majísimo” by Jorge Garcia, and “Leda y el Cisne,” and “Rítmicas” by Ivan Tenorio will be performed on Friday.
“Rara Avis,” “Alfonsina,” “Leda y el cisne,” “Dionaea,” and “Majísimo” will be staged on Saturday, October 7, while “Rara Avis,” “La Cenicienta” (Pas de deux), “Leda y el Cisne,” “Rítmicas” and “Dionaea and Majísimo” will be on stage on Sunday, October 8.
The Jubilee Season will continue from October 12 to 15 with the cycle Legends and the pieces “Bodas de sangre” (Blood Wedding) and “Carmen.”
Classics such as “Coppelia,” “Swan Lake”, and “Don Quixote”, danced and choreographed by Alicia Alonso, a trilogy that supports the international recognition of the BNC as one of the leading exponents of Romanticism and classical dance, will be revived from October 20 to 24.
The gala on the BNC’s 75th anniversary will be held on October 28, and will include “Giselle,” the most famous of the romantic ballets, masterfully interpreted by Alicia Alonso, and the choreographies “Canto Vital” by Azari Plisetski and “The Seventh Symphony” by Uwe Scholz, with music by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Photo exhibitions, meetings with prominent figures from the BNC, medal-awarding ceremonies, and post stamps commemorating the milestones of Cuba’s major dance company, declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation, are among other proposals to celebrate the anniversary.
