derrumbe
Panama City, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) Several solidarity groups with Cuba in Panama offered on Thursday deepest condolences to the families of the victims at a building collapse in Havana.

The chapter of the Azuero region mourned the injuries received by several tenants of and the affected families.

Regarding this incident, the Cuban Interior Ministry (MININT) reported that on late October 3, an emergency call was received to report a building collapsed in Old Havana Municipality, to which several Fire Department members responded.

Shortly right after the first collapse, a second one occurred in the building, which surprised the firefighters working at the site and caused two rescuers to be buried by the rubble and perish.

According to Coroners, Yoandra Suarez, 40, and Luis Alejandro Llerena, 23, a professional rescuer, died from asphyxia due to a thoracoabdominal compression.

After several hours, specialized forces found the corpse under the debris.

According to press reports, the victim is Ramon Paez, who was at the scene at the time of the collapse and was reported missing.

Solidarity groups further condemned in their messages on social networks the material restrictions suffered by Cubans as a consequence of the U.S. blockade against Cuba for over six decades.

In its report, the Azuero chapter stresses that the US blockade hinders the fulfillment of vital needs in several sectors, including housing. “Cuba nor any other country in the world deserves to experience the imposition of another nation, simply for deciding on a different socioeconomic and political regime.

All peoples deserve to decide their destiny and lives with dignity and respect,” the text refers.
