The meeting of the European Political Community and the informal event of the 27 Heads of State and Government of the European Union are sponsored by Spain as acting president of the EU with the aim of giving a boost to the dynamics of the group and trying to add the other countries of the continent.
The meetings are considered turning points for the future with the ambition to draw a kind of roadmap around global challenges and Europe’s leadership.
The deliberations cover, in addition to the European Union, the other 17 countries in the region.
The war in Ukraine and Volodymyr Zelensky’s eventual participation in the event, and the attendance of Kosovo, not recognized as a country by Spain and four other EU members, are considered thorny issues in every sense.
Spain will seek new rules to promote the expansion of the bloc, although there does not seem to be a consensus at the moment. In any case, it seems necessary to make future income more flexible so that the EU may not be weakened by threats of departure from the bloc by some countries (specifically Poland).
Perspectives on migration and strategic autonomy will also be analyzed.
