The US functionary discussed migration with Mexico’s Foreign Affairs Secretary Alicia Bárcena, Colombia’s Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva, and Panama’s Janaina Tewaney, who participated virtually.
Shortly after arriving in Mexico on Wednesday afternoon, Blinken and his accompanying delegation went to the headquarters of the Foreign Secretariat for a private meeting.
Blinken’s new visit to Mexico is due to the 2023 Mexico-United States High-Level Security Dialogue, which will take place at the National Palace on Thursday.
The US delegation led by Blinken includes Attorney General Merrick Garland, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Todd Robinson, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian Nichols, White House Homeland Security Advisor Liz Sherwood-Randall, and US Ambassador to Mexico, Kent Salazar.
According to the US Department of State, the two countries will discuss, through this high-level dialogue, the joint implementation of the Bicentennial Framework for Security, Public Health, and Safe Communities.
