The rights of women and girls granted to them by Islam have never been and will never be violated. The Islamic Emirate considers it, its obligation to correct the rights of females in the country, government spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said.
The Taliban’s statement comes after the United Nations (UN) rapporteur for human rights in Afghanistan, Richard Bennett, expressed his concern over restrictions on the female sector in this nation.
In a statement, Bennett and representatives of several countries to the UN Humanitarian Council referred to the prohibition of basic rights such as access to education and work and called on the interim Afghan government to protect human rights, particularly those of women and girls.
During the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, 80 countries expressed in a joint statement their concern over the violation of women’s rights in Afghanistan, calling the Islamic Emirate’s edicts related to women as systematic discrimination, oppression and violence.
