El Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN), the organization in power when the monument to the Cuban-Argentine guerrilla was erected, described as repudiatory the action on October 8, the 56th anniversary of Che’s fall in combat in Bolivia.
A message from the Political Commission of the organization described the action as “savagery” and said that the municipal mayor Jorge Morán, without the agreement of the Council, in a unilateral action “typical of fascism, tries to erase history” and today “shows a very high degree of brutality by destroying a monument that was built by the FMLN in 2009”.
The message of repudiation to the action added that the work commemorated the passage through the place of the then Dr. Ernesto Guevara, who knew and made his own the hopes of the Latin American peoples.
