According to health authorities, specialists will visit health centers and communities in Pastaza, Orellana, and Sucumbíos provinces for two weeks, where malaria cases are reported, to follow up on the different strategies implemented in those sites.
The medical mission is part of the Plan for Malaria Prevention and Elimination 2021-2025, according to experts from the Health Ministry.
Rural doctor Alcívar Ortiz told newspaper El Telégrafo that cases in 24 communities under the jurisdiction of the Villano Health Center in Pastaza province will be actively searched. Four of them are considered malaria outbreaks.
According to official figures from the Ministry of Health, an estimated 1,478 malaria cases were recorded in Ecuador in 2022.
