During the meeting at Shtrapati Bhavan, in New Delhi, Murmu described the timing of Peña’s visit to India as appropriate, since, she said, it takes place on the 25th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, which, in her words, are warm and friendly, anchored in the solid foundation of the shared values of democracy and a broad convergence of views on global issues.
The president stressed that the Dominican Republic is India’s eighth trading partner in Latin America and expressed confidence in the potential to further diversify that sphere.
Murmu assured that there is potential to work together and exchange experiences and knowledge in areas such as pharmaceuticals, marine sciences, meteorology, disaster-resistant infrastructure and digital payment technologies. She also stated that capacity development is one of the central pillars of cooperation between India and the Dominican Republic.
The President also expressed satisfaction over the recent organization of two special Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) courses for Dominican functionaries in the fields of cyber security and remote sensing.
Both dignitaries agreed that continued contacts between India and the Dominican Republic will further strengthen bilateral ties.
Peña will also meet with her counterpart Jagdeep Dhankhar, as part of her program in India until October 5th, and will deliver a conference on relations between both nations at the Indian Council for World Affairs.
