The Kenyan-led force will leave a different mark in the history of military interventions in Haiti (…) We must not fail the Haitians, the president said in a message after the UN body approved the deployment of the force in the Caribbean country.
The text of the Security Council’s resolution authorizes the deployment of the contingent for one year, with a review of the results after nine months and will be subsidized with voluntary contributions.
Although there are no details as to the number of members of the force, which will not be under the UN flag, nor the date of its deployment, media stories allude to at least 1,000 Kenyan police officers.
