In the recommendation, that institution of the bloc urged the evaluation of potential weaknesses until the end of the year, to then determine the necessary actions aimed at strengthening security.
Brussels considers this measure within the common commitment associated with risk reduction without breaking ties with third countries.
According to Vera Jourova, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for the rule of law, “technology is now at the heart of geopolitical competition and the EU wants to be a player, not the playing field”.
For his part, the Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, pointed out that, in order to mitigate the most urgent weaknesses, it is necessary to explore solutions to support the development of these technologies within the group or to seek new alliances with international partners.
He called for the creation of an economic security strategy, following the identification of risks and better control of inbound and outbound trade operations.
