Cuban Ambassador, Andres Marcelo Gonzalez, attended the activity, in Colombo, organized by the Sri Lanka Palestine Solidarity Committee, the Young Men’s Christian Association and the Pamunugama and Born to Win Relationships Organization of Jaela.

The Palestinian flag was raised on September 30, 2015 on the lawns of the United Nations complex in New York, in a ceremony attended by Abbas and the then UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

On that occasion, the Palestinian president called as historical that moment of his people’s struggle for freedom and independence and urged all citizens of his country, wherever they were, to hold high the national emblem as a symbol of their identity.

Abbas declared that from thence on, every September 30, will be celebrated as Flag Day to pay tribute to the prisoners, the wounded and those who gave their lives during the struggle against the violations, abuses and attacks of the Zionist troops of Israel in Palestinian territories.
