On a day that seemed calm given the certainty of the new defeat of the leader of the conservative Popular Party (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, a heated speech of the secretary general of this organization made the atmosphere tense.
Apart from Cuca Gamarra’s words against the acting President of the Government and head of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), Pedro Sánchez, the counting of the votes also sparked controversy.
Although Feijóo’s setback was already ostensible with 172 votes in favor and 177 against, the error of a parliamentarian of the pro-independence group Junts por Cataluña, Eduard Pujol, became a useless bone of contention.
Pujol said Yes when he was appointed and when he realized his mistake he rectified with a No. However, the acting secretary at the time, from the PP, did not accept the change of vote.
Finally, after an extensive debate among the members of the Board of the Lower House, its president, Francina Armengol, informed that the count would be 172 in favor, 177 against and one null vote, something that did not satisfy Feijóo’s team.
