Luisa González, from the Citizen Revolution (RC), and Daniel Noboa, from the National Democratic Action alliance (ADN), who will run for the presidency on October 15, will hold interviews and vote-catching rallies in preparation for their debate, which is set to take place on Sunday, October 1, at 7:00 pm (local time).
The RC expects that the debate will be decisive in its strategy to unmask the ADN representative and presenting González’s proposals to “recover our Homeland.”
“This is going to lean in our favor due to the proposals, because as the campaign advances you can see who is behind Noboa, a young marketing product that is being presented as a new thing, but when one analyzes his government plan and its statements the neoliberal project becomes evident,” RC leader Virgilio Hernández said.
The format of the first round of debates prevented the seven candidates from going deeper into their proposals, which generated criticism from the National Electoral Council as organizer of the event.
For the lawyer and political analyst Mauro Andino, the result of the elections will not be defined exclusively by the debate, but it may be a factor that influences support.
“This time, as it is a debate only between two, it will be easier to establish an ideological and programmatic border between two antagonistic models; on the one hand, the exercise of rights and the role of the State will be defended, and on the other we have a market proposal,” Andino said in an interview with the TeleSur channel.
