Congress’ First Vice-Chair Hernando Guerra Garcia dies at 60

Lima, Sep 29 (Prensa Latina) First Vice-Chair of Peruvian Parliament, Hernando Guerra Garcia, died in the early hours of Friday morning in Peru's southern city of Arequipa, where he had arrived to participate at the Perumin 36 Mining Convention.

The Peruvian National Police (PNP) reported that the legislator suffered from a decompensation episode when he was in the district of La Punta de Bombom, in the province of Islay, and was transferred to a local health center.

Later, he was taken to Manuel Torres Muñoz Hospital, located in Mollendo district, in the province of Islay, where his remains still lie.

The necropsy on the body of the deceased lawmaker will be conducted in the city of Mollendo.

The information was provided by Antonio Chacon, Senior Prosecutor Coordinator of the Corporate and Mixed Provincial Criminal Prosecutor’s Offices in Arequipa, who said the Legal Medicine Institute has its seat in Mollendo.

After the necropsy, the body will be handed over to the relatives or a person designated by them.

As for the investigation of the case, Prosecutor Chacon stated that it has been started and is being headed by the provincial prosecutor in Islay.

The congress member arrived in the city of Arequipa to take part at the Perumin 36 Mining Convention, and he was scheduled to visit the district of Punta de Bombom.

Hernando Guerra Garcia, aged 60, was elected legislator on a Fuerza Popular Party ticket in the last general elections held in 2021.

Last July, he was elected First Vice-Chair of Congress, as part of the list led by Alejandro Soto.
