Maduro stated that this “tremendous international fair”, unprecedented in Venezuela, “will serve to show the path we have traveled and where we have arrived, thanks to the efforts and results of public and private companies”, and announced that Venezuela “is open to investment in the telecommunications industry.”
The president expressed that Commander Hugo Chávez (1954-2013), back in 1999 or 2000, defined a policy for the development of telecommunications in the country, so as to advance Venezuela in new and informative technologies.
Maduro assured that the policies they defined to open and facilitate investments, and achieve a true and effective cooperation network between all telecommunications companies “have worked and are working,” and have placed the country in a good position to set great objectives.
As a strategy to further boost the sector, the president announced the release of taxes for one year on imports from telecommunications companies and ordered the banks to grant credits to operators to reinforce services throughout the country.
He also recommended, for this year, that 20 thousand public schools and high schools out of 33 thousand in the country, be provided with good-quality Internet, and asked for support to create a working group and bring quality Internet to the more than 40 public universities in the nation, among other proposals.
