The district health director of La Mana, in Cotopaxi, Christian Moreira, said that the district is going through an outbreak of the virus transmitted by mosquito bites, and so far it is known that a pregnant woman and a teenager died as a result of the disease, he said.
Moreira explained that they have registered more than 100 cases so far this year and it is estimated that there are an equal or greater number of undetected patients.
Unfortunately, the outbreak is prior to the beginning of the El Niño phenomenon, which makes us fear that, with the presence of rains, this could increase, warned the official in declarations to Marca TV.
So far, the Health Ministry has registered 19,450 cases of dengue fever at national level, 40 percent more than that reported in the same period of 2022.
Last September 8, the health agency issued an epidemiological alert for the provinces of Manabí, Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas and Esmeraldas.
