Experts in Cuba stress need for technological cooperation

Havana, Sep 28 (Prensa Latina) Experts in international relations stressed the relevance of articulating the nations of the Global South in the efforts to join the ongoing technological transition to ensure development.

Speaking at the 8th Conference on Strategic Studies, which is taking place in this capital with the participation of Cuban and foreign researchers, Veronica Sforzin, from the National University of La Plata, Argentina, noted that in the current context, cooperation among Latin American and Caribbean countries is essential.

According to the expert, the region is highly dependent on external actors for technology, and only through collaboration based on solidarity and multilateralism it will develop as a scientific and technological pole of power.

The current technological transition and the new industrial revolution must be based on a vision that puts people at the center, and not the interests of large transnational corporations, she said.

Sforzin pointed out that the world is going through a structural crisis and a systemic transition as a result, on the one hand, of the decline of the unipolar order of the Anglo-Saxon axis and, on the other one, China’s emergence as an economic power with the capacity to redefine international power relations.

This crisis and historic transition represent opportunities and threats for the Latin American and Caribbean region, due to the complexity of the global scenario and the technological gap between the developed countries and the nations of the Global South, the specialist added.

The 8th Conference on Strategic Studies is taking place from September 27 to 29 at the Higher Institute of International Relations (ISRI), in Havana, and it is cosponsored by the Latin American Council of Social Sciences.
