A political-cultural event chaired by Ambassador Javier Caamaño, diplomats, Cuban residents in Colombia, members of the Colombian Movement of Solidarity, and friends of Cuba gathered on Wednesday to celebrate the anniversary of Cuba’s largest mass organization.
From the organization’s National Directorate, CDR National Coordinator and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo Hernández, sent a big hug to all Cuban Embassies and invited them to join the celebration in a tweet.
Diplomat Morbelys Cuellar recalled that the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, announced the founding of the CDRs on September 28, 1960, in a speech in front of the former Presidential Palace (current Museum of the Revolution). The CDRs were established to defend society in each neighborhood.
Cuellar referred to a series of events that led to the organization’s founding, stressing that the CDRs have fought crime, illegality, corruption, drugs, and social indiscipline in the neighborhoods.
