The organization is closing its 10th Congress this Thursday with the commitment to continue improving the work of the Cuban Revolution, with its spirit of militancy and resistance, focused on analyzing the organization’s problems, with a renewed approach and actions to help the country in the current context.
The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, announced the founding of the CDRs on September 28, 1960, in a speech in front of the former Presidential Palace (current Museum of the Revolution). They were established to defend the society in each neighborhood.
Since their founding, the Committees have fought crime, illegality, corruption, drugs, and social indiscipline. To confront these scourges, surveillance groups were formed in the communities.
At the opening of the 10th Congress on Wednesday, the organization’s National Coordinator and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo Hernández, emphasized that the CDRs can take on new tasks in defending the country.
