Venezuela: Human right violation complaints lower 42 percent

Caracas, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) Complaints for alleged human rights violations have lowered by 42% in Venezuela since 2018, Attorney General Tarek William Saab revealed Wednesday.

In a press conference, William Saab said that complaints ranged from 13,234 to 7,639 from 2018 to 2022.

Saab detailed that since his arrival at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, 2,053 people were charged for violation of human rights, while 2,304 were indicted.

He stated that 955 people were imprisoned and 509 were sentenced for such a crime.

In his opinion, this figure is paramount since it surpassed the number of 500 State officials sanctioned for human rights violations.

Saab further acknowledged the attrition in homicide investigations, which went from 30,082 in 2017 to 11,115 in 2023, which represented an accumulated decrease of 63% in the last five years, and assured that the downward trend will continue.
