Operations increase in Cuba’s major port

Havana, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) The deputy director of Cuba's Mariel Container Terminal, José Leonardo Sosa, said that the operations and prospects of that facility, an important economic port of the country, are increasing.

Statements published in the Granma newspaper on Wednesday pointed out that the Terminal, located in the western area of Havana, has reported an increase in containerized goods from its refrigerated warehouse capacity of 1,140 intakes, and the rise in international transshipments.

The Mariel Container Terminal is expected to end this year with a traffic of around 300,000 TEUs -a unit of measurement equivalent to a 20-foot container-, a figure that is close to those reached before the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Terminal’s general manager, Martin Jose Spini, noted that the infrastructure is one of the most modern in the region, with an ideal position to serve as a transshipment port and first port of call for Asian services and those of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.
