The pilot study was conducted over a three-month period, and showed that X is well below the parameters envisaged by the European Union in its code of practice against disinformation, EC Vice President Vera Jourova said.
Twitter was one of the digital giants that signed the European code against disinformation, but after it was acquired by billionaire Elon Musk, it was renamed X and the agreement was withdrawn, according to EU sources.
X is no longer under the code and is now the platform with the highest proportion of erroneous publications and disinformation, the official added.
According to Jourova, the EC is seeking commitments from digital platforms to reducing disinformation ahead of the European elections, scheduled for June 2024.
