A group of Ecuadorian writers and organizers of the international meeting “Poesia en Paralelo Cero” (Poetry at Zero Parallel) will travel to Havana, the capital of Cuba, next week to give Rodríguez the award.
During a talk on Tuesday evening, Cuban Ambassador Basilio Gutiérrez expressed satisfaction in paying homage to Silvio Rodríguez, one of the highest exponents of Cuban poetry, along with José Martí and Nicolás Guillén.
The diplomat also highlighted how culture, especially the arts, has helped to strengthen relations between Cuba and Ecuador.
The Cuban singer-songwriter’s music and, of course, his poetry, delighted the meeting, which served as a farewell to the group that will travel to Havana to take the prize and launch the book “Letras de Silvio” (Silvio’s lyrics), which contains more than 150 songs.
