The theme of the meeting is “Harnessing Multilateralism and Parliamentary Diplomacy to Deepen BRICS and Africa Partnership for accelerated implementation of the Africa Free-Trade Agreement.”
South Africa National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula chairs the forum, which follows the 15th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) Summit held in Johannesburg in August.
It aims to foster stronger parliamentary ties and deeper cooperation among BRICS member states.
According to Mapisa-Nqakula, the BRICS parliamentary speakers will discuss several global challenges shared by the group’s member nations.
Through the BRICS Parliamentary Forum, member parliaments play a fundamental role in overseeing legislative actions and monitoring decisions of the executive branch, the speaker of the South African parliament recalled.
