In an opinion article published in Diario El Salvador, Hernández praised Cuba’s leadership and the role of China in the G77 meeting held in Havana on September 16 and 17.
During the meeting, he said, 134 nations declared themselves in favor of “creating a world network of fairer economic exchange, with new technologies, infrastructure and scientific innovations, respect for autonomy and self-determination”, among other objectives.
China, he said, plays a key role through the Silk Road political-economic megaproject. Ports, railroads, airports, highways, trains, innovative infrastructure projects, among others, are the results of this cooperation, he said.
In El Salvador, he said, these projects include the National Library, the port of La Libertad, the new national stadium, the purification of Lake Ilopango, scholarships for young university students to study in China, donations of anti-COVID vaccines, wheat, rice, fertilizers and other pragmatic cooperation projects that will benefit both peoples.
Faithful to its historical role of solidarity with the struggle and cooperation of Third World countries, Cuba’s role was extraordinary and highly effective for the development of this summit, Hernandez remarked.
This conclave covered a complexity of issues and problems from the concern for the destruction of the environment and the voracious plundering of the natural resources of the global south by the imperialist powers to the concern for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the expert indicated.
He pointed out that the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, attended the UN General Assembly to present the results of the meeting to the world, in his capacity as temporary president of the group. The G77+China is the highest expression of solidarity, fraternity and cooperation of a new kind among the countries of the global South, he stressed.
