Slovakia suggests retaking control over border with Hungary

Bratislava, Sep 24 (Prensa Latina) The president of the Slovak Parliament, Boris Kollar, and the former Prime Minister and leader of the Social Democratic Party, Robert Fico, on Sunday suggested retaking control over the border with Hungary.

Kollar, leader of the We are Family party, called for the temporary imposition of checks on the borders with Hungary to prevent the flow of immigrants to this country.

It is necessary to take measures for closure and our party will be rigorous in that sense, he commented.

Foreigners who leave their countries due to economic reasons should not expect to receive political asylum, the parliamentary leader said during the analytical program “In Politics” on channel ta3.

Both Slovakia and Hungary are among the 27 European countries that make up the Schengen area, where there is a free flow of citizens among those States.

Fico, whose party is presented as the possible most voted in the September 30 elections, returned to the issue of migration by considering that Germany could also impose a temporary control on its border with the Czech Republic to prevent the entry of foreigners.

According to the leader of the Social Democratic Party, this will automatically mean that Prague will also impose a review regime with this country.

We must implement this control to prevent other neighboring States from imposing this measure on Slovakia, the former prime minister noted.

The European Union recently analyzed a package of measures to deal with the migration crisis, after tens of thousands of immigrants arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa in recent months, mostly from countries in the Middle East and Northern Africa.
