At the 78th session of UNGA, Bukele spoke about his government’s wise management in terms of security after going from being the most dangerous country in the world “to the safest in the region”.
“Nowadays, we are a role model worldwide, we decided to take risks, we did not accept the destiny others had traced for us,” the president assured proudly, notwithstanding criticism from some local and international sectors for alleged human rights violations.
Despite criticism, Salvadorans live in an environment of security as never before and experts forecast to be a positive element, which paves the way for Bukele’s re-election in 2024.
In the week, troughs and tropical waves have caused heavy rains that brought about damage to the country, causing at least two deaths, while authorities have been making efforts to adapt to climate change and to be able to respond to emergencies.
The issue was one of the main goals of the “Meeting for Climate 2023,” an encounter that approved the creation of the Climate Finance Roundtable this week, a useful platform for sharing information on the efforts and challenges faced by El Salvador in this area.
